“In summary, Talon gave us a high-quality product, on time and at a fair price. They are honest, friendly, easy to talk with and true to their word as reflected in their “Bill of Rights” and “Code of Conduct” (see website). They say what they will do and do what they say.
As empty-nesters advancing in age, we looked to make our two-story house more readily accessible. This meant bringing the master bedroom downstairs and the food pantry upstairs from the basement in order that all our activity would be on the first floor. Through remodeling and putting an addition on the house, we felt our needs could be met. And looking to the future, the new space should include design elements compatible with an in-law suite, such as exterior access. We presented our general requirements to three local established building contractors. Talon Construction was an easy choice given the initial detail gathered from us and the thorough proposal they presented.
Our first encounter with Talon demonstrated the importance of a “Design-Build” concept. We discussed many of our and their ideas and viewed appropriate examples from their projects. In fact, one photo of his/her vanity with a vertical cabinet on the countertop was incorporated in our bathroom. It was clear that more effort invested upfront increased the likelihood the final product would be what we wanted. It was a refreshing difference in attitude, not the usual “I know what you want, trust me”. The design process went through stages, involving us as little or as much as we wanted; we preferred the latter. Designer Brian communicated well with us throughout the maturation of the design. He included 3D-CAD presentations along the way which was very important for us to “see” exactly what we would get at completion to ensure our satisfaction. Blueprints are sometimes hard to visualize the final product. It worked!
All tradesmen, both Talon employees, and sub-contractors were excellent workers. They were efficient, respectful of our time and property, provided high-quality results and attention to the small details, too. For example, if a piece of lumber wasn’t quite right, it was set aside. Field Supervisor Hutch was an excellent communicator of what to expect each week, important since we were living in the rest of the house during construction. He kept the project moving on schedule, getting the various trades on-site when needed and seeing materials deliveries arrived promptly. When issues arose, he responded quickly and consulted us if there were impacts on the schedule or field adjustments needed in the design.
The new addition blended perfectly with the rest of the house as if it were part of the original construction. Many neighbors commented on how wonderful it looked. Others said they really liked the interior design and quality of the result. Most importantly, the project Talon completed for us achieved our goal and we are thoroughly enjoying the result. We have and will recommend this company to anyone who needs a job done well.”
